2006 Pesticide Updates

News on the registration status and use labels of pesticides relevant to the tree fruit industry are highlighted below.
 

NOVEMBER 2006

Insecticides
    • AMDRO FIRESTRIKE (hydramethylynon/s-methoprene) - Abrands - A new combination porduce available for fire ant control in lawns, golf courses, and commercial grounds.
    • ARENA (clothianidin) - Arystra - Added to their label the usage on turfgrass, landscape ornamentals and sod farms.  Also to control mole crickets, chinch bugs, and sod webworms.
    • BSN-2060 (spiromesifen) - Bayer Environmental Science - A new formulation being developed for use on ornamentals.
    • CASCADE (flufenoxuron) - BASF - EPA established residue tolerances on apples at 0.5 ppm, grapes at 0.7 ppm, raisins at 2 ppp, oranges at 4 ppm, orange oil at 60 ppm, and pears at 0.5 ppm.
    • DIMILIN (diflubensuron) - Chemtura - Added to their label the control of feeding caterpillars, fall armyworms and striped grass loopers.
    • FORBID (spiromesifen) - Bayer Environmental Science - A new insecticide for usage on shrubs, trees, and flowers to control whiteflies and mites.
    • LUCID (abamectin) - Rotam USA - A post-patent formulation for usage on ornamentals.
    • TEMPO 20 WP (cyfluthrin) - Bayer - Added to their label the control of emerald ash borers.
    • TETRASAN (etoxazole) - Valent - Added to their label the usage on Christmas trees.
Fungicides
    • BLOOMTIME (Pantoea Agglomerans strains E-325) - Northwest Ag Products - EPA established an exemption from residue tolerance requirements when used on apples and pears.
    • HEADWAY (azoxystrobin/propiconazole) - Syngenta - A new combination fungicide to control various diseases in turf.
Miscellaneous
    • VBC-30051/VBC-30074 (s-abscisic acid) - Valent - A new growth regulator being developed for usage on ornamentals.
 

OCTOBER 2006

Insecticides
    • ACARAMITE (bifenazate) - Chemtura - As a result of the IR-4 Project, EPA established residue tolerances on stone fruit at 2.5 ppm.
    • CALYPSO (thiacloprid) -  Bayer Crop Science - Deleted from their label the usage on pome fruit.
    • FUJIMATE (fenpyroximage) - Nichino America - As a result of the IR-4 project, EPA has granted residue tolerances for use on pome fruits.
Fungicides
    • DIVIDEND (difenoconazole) - Syngenta - EPA established residue tolerances on pome fruit.
    • KENTAN DF (copper hydroxide) - Isagro - A new formulation for use on fruit trees.
 

SEPTEMBER 2006

Insecticides
    • GF-1587 - Dow AgroSciences - A new insectcide for the control of lepidoptera insects, thrips and leafminers in pome fruit.
    • GF-1640 - Dow AgroSciences - A new insecticide for the control of lepidoptera insects, thrips and leafminers in pome fruit.
Fungicides
    • BADGE (copper hydroxide/copper oxychloride) - Isagro - A new formulation for use on fruit crops.
    • CLEVIS (mancozeb/myclobutanil) - Prokoz Inc. - A combination fungicide to control powdery mildew and rust in apples.
Miscellaneous
    • ISOMATE CM/LR (pheromones) - Pacific Bio Control - EPA received an application to register this new active ingredient as a mating disruption pheromone for codling moths and leafroller moths for use in orchards.
